The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation stealth fighter. Three models of F-35 have been developed (F-35A, F-35B, F-35C). The F-35A is a conventional take-off and landing version, while the F-35B is designed to take short take-offs with a vertical landing and the F-35C, with a larger wing area, is intended for service on aircraft carriers.
The F-35 is piloted by a single pilot. With a maximum loaded weight of 50,000 pounds, it’s Pratt & Whitney F135 engine produces 43,000 pounds of post-combustion thrust for maximum Mach 1.6 speeds.
The range of the F-35 is 2200 km with internal reserves, which can be extended with external reserves and air refueling. Inner compartments hide the armament until the moment of attack and thus improve the stealth aspect of the aircraft.
The F-35 is one of five aircraft in consideration to replace the CF-18s.
